West Village Apartment Combination
This new two bedroom, family-friendly space was created by combining a studio apartment with a one bedroom, in a historic Art Deco building. It was important to the clients to create a space that felt open and large, without sacrificing any of their programmatic needs. In the kitchen, upper cabinets were used sparingly, and instead open storage and full height tiled surfaces were installed to keep things feeling open. The dining area was designed to be flexible, with an expanding table and a banquette, which can accommodate larger groups and provide additional storage. The living room is a central space, accessible from both bedrooms, and the furnishings were selected to be comfortable yet scaled appropriately for the room. In the master bedroom, custom millwork surrounds the bed to maximize storage, and on the opposite wall, a custom closet integrates the television. The bathrooms were designed to work with the existing plumbing locations, and provide adequate space without compromising living area. Throughout, all the finishes, furnishings, and textiles were selected to create a cohesive environment.
